till we meet again, my dear grandpa brenchley

It has been a heartbreaking week for my family. Just 3 weeks ago we learned that my Grandpa Brenchley had pancreatic cancer and was really not doing well. In those 3 weeks his health declined fast. I was able to fly home the week we found out so I could see him once more.  It seemed unreal because in our eyes Grandpa was invincible. He is the toughest man we know. On Wednesday May 2nd he passed away.
We are going to miss him terribly. He is the coolest grandpa. I have always been so proud to be Arlyn Brenchley's granddaughter. He was a farmer, a soldier, a fireman, a missionary, a worthy priesthood holder, a faithful father, grandpa and so much more.
I have always loved going to Wellsville to visit Grandma and Grandpa Brenchley. There is this feeling of peace that I have always felt driving into Cache Valley and I think a big part of that was knowing that Grandpa was there. I loved pulling into the drive way to find him in his lawn chair, wearing a cowboy hat, reading a western novel, with one hand on his dog always. I loved visiting the farm with him and watching the animals follow his every command. I loved that we both have a love for salting all of our food, and dinners together often meant a battle for the salt shaker. I will miss seeing his big sun tanned, calloused hands which were proof of his life of hard work. While I was at USU, I loved going to grandma and Grandpas for a nap, to do my laundry, and to talk and have dinner with Granda and Grandpa. Those Sundays I had alone with them are some of my most treasured memories. I will miss calling Grandma and hearing Grandpa on the other line listening. I will miss watching western movies with him. I will miss his sarcastic personality and loving demeanor. Grandpa had a very strong testimony and love for the gospel, he wasn't one to speak about his feelings, but you knew that he knew it because of how faithfully he lived it. Before I left for my mission I was having dinner with Grandma and Grandpa Brenchley and we were talking about me being a missionary, I don't remember how it came up, but I so clearly remember him looking at me and telling me that he knew for sure that the church and the Book of Mormon was true. There were several times as a missionary when people were tearing us down and or when my faith was being tested that I thought of that conversation I had with my grandpa, and my faith was strengthened because I knew that he knew it and he could not be wrong.
When I returned from my mission, Grandma and Grandpa drove down for my homecoming talk and when I first saw him he didn't say anything to me, and he had tears in his eyes. It was the best feeling, he didn't say it but I knew that he was proud of me, and that was something special. I hope that I can live a life where he can always be proud of me.
Miles and I flew home this weekend for the funeral. It was sad and beautiful at the same time. It seemed like everyone in Wellsville was there to honor my grandpa. He was loved by everyone.
Endings are hard, but my testimony has been strengthened this week that death is not the end. I believe that God has a plan of salvation and that it is real. Thanks to our Savior and the covenants made in the temple, my Grandma and Grandpa will be reunited, and we will all be together as a family again someday.
Until then, we will miss you Grandpa!

happy birthday, miles!

Our Mr Miles turned 26 on Wednesday.
Guys, he is really the best and I'm so glad to have him.
We have had a super busy week, so we are postponing his big birthday celebrations for next week.
I did wake up early on Wednesday (miracle) and decorated the kitchen and made a birthday breakfast.

Happy 26th Birthday Miles!
Now we get to pay for health insurance, yay.

Our Black Friends.

Julia & I have been friends have since Kindergarten. She moved away in 5th grade and somehow despite the fact that we have never lived in the same town we have always stayed close friends through the years. She has always been the most supportive, uplifting, loyal friend. She & her awesome husband Collin are about to go on an adventure to North Carolina for medical school this summer, so we were so glad they could come visit us in San Fran before they go!
We had the greatest time showing them around the city. We love it here, so I doubt we will ever get sick of playing tour guide.
It's like the lady & the tramp, but donuts...

We call this one, "Husbands of Instagram..."

Thank you Julia & Collin for coming to visit. We love you!
Next time we will be crashing at their apartment in North Carolina!

god is the gardener

Last week I had the flu so I stayed home from work.
I pulled out my water colors & listened to my favorite speech.
Somehow it made me feel better.

Listen HERE.

fog city

Every couple weeks the fogs rolls in making this place look so cozy. It is the perfect napping weather.

When Mom and Dad are in town...

I love it when my parents come to town. Because I am the youngest in my family, I ended up being the only kid in the house for over 6 years which results in my parents being my greatest friends. I miss them a lot while living far away. I’m so glad that my parents like to travel, see news things, and most importantly eat new things, because they make their weekend visits so fun.

Here are some photos of our weekend together. We accomplished a lot and walked up sooooooo many hills. My bum was sore for days after they left.

The Mosaic Stairway in the Sunset District: A must see! It was especially pretty this time with all of the amazing succulent and plants growing along side. (This was one of the first sets of many stairs/hills we climbed.)

On our way to Grand View Park! It is what it says it is, a grand view!! (More stairs....)

The Palace of Fine Arts. I have never been to Europe, but in my brain this is what it looks like. So beautiful!

The Legion of Honor. Dad loves museums, Mom and I not so much, but this one was actually pretty interesting! Plus you walk right outside the museums doors and you are on the trail to Lands End which just might be my favorite spot in the city!

We checked out the Trolley Car Museum which is amazing to see how it all works, and it's free! We hopped on a trolley car and headed down to the water. Mom made friends with the big black guy driving the trolley, unfortunately she couldn't convince him to let us keep riding after our one way $7 trip. Still so fun!
I had heard so many people say how much they love the Conservatory of Flowers in the Park, and let me just tell you..it was a major let down. The garden section of home depot had more flowers than this place! We payed $8 each to look at some dead plants and this one orchid. Don't go there.
Oh the Sutro Baths! This is a must see at Sunset. Dad had the time of his life taking pictures, and Mom and I did our best to not fall in the water. Living by the ocean is such a treat!

On Saturday, we woke up super early and headed to Carmel where we hiked the Point Lobbos trail. This was such an amazing hike along the coastline. The water is so clear and blue. We saw lots of sea lions, which are so cute and funny to me! My favorite part of the hike was China Cove, where we watched a ton of sea lions drag themselves out of the water to take a nap on the beach. We could have spent all day watching them and taking in that view!

That evening we drove to Monterey to the Aquarium. The only aquarium I have been to is in Utah and I was on an awkward blind date, so my expectations for this aquarium were low. I surprisingly loved it! My favorite was watching the sharks and jellyfish. God was very creative with his animals!

On the drive back to SF, Miles we were cruising down the highway when I saw a sign that said, "Garlic World" I told Miles to hurry and pull off. Then my Dad said, "No seriously, pull off!" It felt like we were in need for speed as Miles swerved across lanes to get us to Garlic World. Of course it was closed! Lucky for us, there are multiple stores called Garlic World in Gilroy which is apparently the garlic capitol of the world. We got some garlic flavored pickles that will leave you stinkin for days. Just my kind of treat!
Not pictured: ALL THE AMAZING FOOD WE ATE. Seriously, SF has the best food around.

Then we came home and watched general conference. Could you ask for a better weekend? I think not.

Thank you Mom and Dad for coming to visit us and taking us on delicious and beautiful adventures!
